How to download, grab and save YouTube thumbnails, and which sizes YouTube makes available.

Copy the video link from YouTube (the Share button or the address bar), paste it into the box above and click Get thumbnails. Every size YouTube has for that video appears below. Click Download on the one you want, and the full-resolution JPG saves to your device.
YouTube generates up to five versions of each thumbnail: HD (1280×720), SD (640×480), High quality (480×360), Medium quality (320×180) and Small (120×90). HD is the original custom thumbnail at full size. The SD and High quality versions are 4:3, so a 16:9 thumbnail has black bars above and below it.
YouTube only creates the HD version when the uploaded thumbnail or video was at least 720p. Older videos, low-resolution uploads and some brand-new videos that are still processing don't have one, so the tool hides that size and you can download the largest version that exists.
Yes. Paste a /shorts/, /live/, youtu.be, embed or regular watch link, or just the 11-character video ID. Shorts and live videos use the same thumbnail addresses as regular videos, although YouTube does not always generate every size for them.
Yes. There is no sign-up, no limit on how many thumbnails you grab and no watermark. The images come straight from YouTube at their original quality.
Yes. Paste the link from the YouTube app's Share menu into the box. On most phones the Download button saves the image directly. If your browser opens it in a new tab instead, press and hold the image and choose Save to Photos or Download image.
Downloading a thumbnail to view it, study it or use it as design reference is generally fine. The image is still owned by the channel that made it, though, so don't reuse someone else's thumbnail on your own videos or in commercial work without permission. Your own thumbnails are yours to download and reuse however you like.
Yes. After you grab a video's thumbnails, click "Test it in the Thumbnail Checker" and the thumbnail opens in the checker with YouTube's desktop and mobile overlays drawn on top. You can see what the duration badge and mobile UI cover without saving the file first.
No. The link is read in your browser to find the video ID, and the thumbnails load directly from YouTube's image server (i.ytimg.com). Nothing passes through TubePrep's servers, and we don't keep a history of what you look up.
